About

Chapter 7 introduces the music and associated cultural activities from East Asia, including the countries of China, Korea, and Japan. Three different sites (Guqin, the “silk and bamboo” ensemble, and Beijing Opera) from China are offered, which help to illustrate the philosophical and political influences on music from the country. P'ansori from South Korea is introduced, along with the Japanese court music known as Gagaku.
