Welcome

Film, Form, and Culture asks you to look at and think seriously about film. The book focuses on what we can do to slow down and understand what a film is doing, to analyze what we see and hear. It also provides ways to put films in the contexts that create and surround them, the culture out of which a film is made and to which it returns when seen.

This website extends the book by providing links to the book’s chapters that introduce extra content and offer some directions for further study. Each chapter head contains a section called “Key Light” that focuses on aspects of the chapter not covered in the text: extending its ideas, looking at other films and directors, suggesting ways to further pursue the ideas contained in the chapters. Also linked to each chapter head are discussion questions and further reading and viewing suggestions. In addition, there is an archive section containing material from past editions of Film, Form, and Culture.
